Bauhaus Edition: Media Art
Edition Bauhaus: Media Art
76 min (language: german, english; subtitles: english)
1922 – 1977/ Publishers: Stiftung Bauhaus Dessau, Christian Hiller, Philipp Oswalt, Thomas Tode.
This edition presents selected works of Henry Brocksieper, Werner Graeff, Kurt Kranz, Kurt Schwerdtfeger, which bring the variety of different genres of art at the Bauhaus expression. The genres of painting, drawing, graphic and installation are also dynamically through the medium of film. The Bauhaus was inspired by the abstract films by Hans Richter and Viking Eggeling and further developed the modern form of language in media art experiments.
Film, for teachers and students at the Bauhaus, was an important facet of Gropius’s educational concept, which focused on teaching a “science of seeing”. Film, as the technological medium, was an important part of this programme. Collated for the first time in this Edition, the media art films of the Bauhaus provide an insight into the spectrum of diverse art genres, which were lived and practiced at the Bauhaus, and their reciprocal influences.
